Sometimes you might want to add a circular photo of the author on the last page of a text or presentations. Word and PowerPoint don’t offer this feature directly, but there are two ways to achieve it.
Option 1: Open the Insert menu and go to Images > This Device in the Illustrations section. In the Explorer view, navigate to the image you want, select it, and click Insert.
Make sure that the photo is selected in your document. The new Image Format menu will appear. Open it and click Crop > Crop to Shape in the Size section, then select Ellipse under Standard Shapes. The photo might appear as an oval. To fix this, select the image, click Crop again, and then choose Aspect Ratio > 1:1.
You will now see eight black handles at the edges of the selected area. If not, click Crop > Crop. Hold down the left mouse button and drag the handles to enlarge or reduce the image section.
Next, click inside the image and drag it back and forth with the left mouse button held down until the section is positioned the way you want it. Clicking on an empty space next to the selected area will then crop out the parts of the photo you don’t need.
You can also add a frame to the image. To do this, select it and go to Picture Frame in the Picture Format Templates section of the Picture Format menu. Select Thickness and set the desired thickness of the frame.
The Picture Effects menu, located just below Picture Frame, lets you enhance the frame visually. You can also add a caption field using the Picture Layout menu.
Option 2: This method is a bit quicker, but you’ll have fewer cropping options. Open the Insert menu and click Shapes in the Illustrations area.
Under Standard Shapes, select Ellipse and draw a circle. Select it and open the Shape Format menu. In the Size section, set the same value for the vertical and horizontal dimensions to optimize the circle.
Next, click Fill Effect > Image > From File in the Shape Types section. Find and select the desired image file in the Explorer view, then click Insert to transfer the photo to the circle.
To add a frame, right-click the image and go to Contour > Thickness above the context menu.
